Although everyone is encouraged to visit the dentist at least every six months, some people have a very deep fear of being seen by a dentist. Due to the numerous horror stories that are circulated, reputable dentists have obtained an unfair stereotype. Here are some of the common misconceptions about visiting the dentist. 

Myth: Dentists are very painful. 
Competent dentists make sure their patients experience a minimal amount of discomfort. During certain dental procedures, the dentist will even provide anesthesia to the patient. Choosing not to visit the dentist can lead to major health problems in the long run. 


Myth: The dentist will embarrass me. 
Dentists have seen all types of dental problems. From rotten teeth to gum disease, experienced dentists are well-versed in dealing with every type of dental problem. The primary goal of the dentist is to make sure that an individual's teeth remain as healthy as possible. 

Myth: Dental checkups are a complete waste of time. 
Visiting the dentist on a regular basis is one of the most important aspects of good health. Upon visiting the dentist, a person may be able to prevent the onset of certain ailments such as gum disease and tooth decay. In some instances, a dentist may even save a person's life. 

Myth: A dentist can not help the condition of my teeth.
