IPL devices are used in cosmetic surgery to remove redness, dark or sun spots and excessive hair. IPL stands for intense pulsed light. A hand held laser or light device is gently held over the target area and sends brief, intense pulses of broad spectrum or laser light into the skin, causing slight damage to the tissues. The body’s natural healing response rebuilds the skin without the pigmentation of the brown spot. This process is called rejuvenation. IPL therapy is also used to reduce or eliminate sun damage, skin redness and acne.
There are different types of devices such as smooth diode, Q-vanish, Clarion Er:Glass, Halcyon O2 and Expert Pulsed Light. Each has its own purposes for cosmetic therapy. These devices are not available for sale to the general public as they need to be handled by trained, skilled and certified personnel. Personnel are also highly trained in the proper safety procedures for themselves and the customer.
