Book Musings: Bitcoin Billionaires

Book Musings: Bitcoin Billionaires

I was so skeptical of this 'bitcoin' concept when it came out in many of the websites back in 2013. Probably because at lot of those sites who offer a way to invest were scams and you can't blame me for the doubts. But it was only when these Winklevoss twins made it to the news that I realized it's real and the price for 1 bitcoin has gone up to the roof and I can't afford it anymore.

Anyway, this book Bitcoin Billionaire talks about Bitcoin as not just some virtual currencies that pop out of the head of internet brainiacs. It runs deep that is rooted on the philosophy of Libertarianism in which it operates on decentralized digital currency -  borderless, countryless and it is based on Math and not humans.

I never really followed the story of how the first Bitcoin Billionaires came to be and this book is a good read to know it.

Intuitively written by Ben Mezrich, the same guy who wrote The Accidental Billionaires: The founding of Facebook, A tale of sex, money, genius, and betrayal that was adopted into the movie, The Social Network.

This is a good read if you want to understand Bitcoin and the blockchain technology more.

Highly Recommended and happy reading!

Lake Toba was the most massive known eruption in at least the past two million years, a whole order of magnitude more significant than the 19th-century eruption of Tambora, which is the most massive volcanic eruption in recorded history. The Toba eruption affected 2800 cubic kilometers of magma, dropped meters-thick layers of ash and spewed thousands of tons of sulfuric acid and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. It may have produced global temperatures to dip by as much as 10 points Celsius for the next decade, with some cooling lasting approximately a thousand years. This was the average paleolithic time when the height of human technology was rock weapons and fire. Then you get why investigators would think the colossal explosion had a severe influence on the human inhabitants. But the evidence seems to prove that humanity was regularly fine. And we're not sure why. The main climate effects from volcanoes coming from the ash and sulfurous vapors they belch out. After a big eruption, this essence can circulate in the air for years, reflecting sunlight and letting global cooling. Hence that possible decade long volcanic winter caused bt Toba. It performs sight that endless global wintertime would be a distressing story for the planet's residents. For example, the eruption of nearby Tambora turned 1816 into what became recognized as "the year without a summer" and led to crop breakdown and famine throughout the world. And Tambora only set out 175 cubic kilometers of the essence, matched to Toba's thousands. So in the 1990s, a scientist called Stanley Ambrose proposed what's been described the Toba disaster theory. His idea was that the explosion might have nearly cleared out humanity, reducing the global population from about 100,000 people to about 10,000. People of African heritage are more genetically distinct than the other humans, which seems to suggest that the rest of humanity experienced a genetic bottleneck at some point. A climactic drop in population that occurred in a loss of genetic diversity. According to the Toba disaster theory, the giant volcanic explosion and the global winter that followed were the culprits. Africans topical home, the theory goes, helped buffer them against the effects of the volcanic winter and prevented the vast population declines that happened in other areas, which sounds plausible. But as we've continued to look for evidence of the so-called Toba catastrophe, things have become a lot less clear.

For one thing, scientists don't all agree on just how adverse the eruption's effects on the climate were. In 2010, researchers created a numerical model of the eruption's likely climate effects, based on how the particles it shot into the air would have considered solar energy. Their effects showed that the eruption's global results might have been milder and shorter-lived than initially theorized like a three to five-degree drop in the temperature for two or three years instead of a ten-degree decline that did a decade. That's still a huge deal, a drop of just one degree was enough to cause the year without a summertime. But perhaps it wasn't a great, very deal to remove off 90% of the world's population. Recent research has also found that charcoal and plant particles in sediment samples from Africa's Lake Malawi don't depict any significant change in plant life before and after the eruption, which is something you'd expect to see if there had been a ten-year-long winter. And, the more archaeologists look for proof of what appeared to people around this time. The more it looks like the answer is nothing too overwhelming. A recent study from the coast of South Africa didn't find any interruption in hominid evolution there. There is a layer of tiny volcanic glass shards from the eruption in archaeological precipitates, but the social artifacts from before and after are much the equivalent. Things to do in Indonesia
