WHERE TO STAY IN LAKE SEBU: SUNRISE GARDEN LAKE RESORT, serenely picturesque

Lake Seloton, South Cotabato
One fine day at scenic Lake Seloton in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato

We're scheduled to ride the highest zipline in Southeast Asia on our last day in Lake Sebu. I was so excited thinking about it days before we left Davao but thinking about it like barely two hours before getting on that body harness made my stomach churn like I was dropping my internals all over and whatever happened after I conquered our return ride, I'm giving you a throbbing clue - made me threw my heart out of my mouth for seconds, I thought I've died. LOL. But one thing I know was certain, that extreme experience of mine, with my travel buddies as crime accessory, made my own 'art of travel' story off my bucket list. Yeah, it really happened! See how a self-proclaimed Merida turned white as heck following that exhilarating ride of my life. (Please check back again for this story or subscribe to my blog not to miss a post, thank you)

But before all that zipline ruckus happened we did breakfast first for physical strength. Our morning nourishment was hosted by Sunrise Garden Lake Resort and from what our cool driver, Manong Gabriel told us, we'll be driving 20 minutes east out of town - to the bank of one of the 3 lakes in Lake Sebu - Lake Seloton.

The drive to Lake Seloton gave us a sneak peek of Lake Sebu's lush countryside. A rough ride that gave us a quick understanding how simplicity is being lived and carried on by the town folks in this part of the world and its a humbling experience and I wish you could come down here too one of these days.

They say, Sunrise Garden Lake Resort is the best location in town to witness mountain sunrise, hence the name. But we came in a little late - the sun has shone all so bright it made stunning blue hues on the mountain background. It's a kind of day you call, one fine day.

Our hostess, the Manager of the resort herself, Ms. Arriane Somido beamed to us in Illongo greeting - warm, sweet and shy. We were then ushered to a hall by the bank of the lake where we could have our breakfast.

And I've warned you on this, haven't I? Just as we expected, we were treated to an all-tilapia breakfast. And sharing two of the must-try morning dishes of this resort;

Paksiw na Tilapia
Paksiw na Tilapia. Though there is abundance of Tilapia in Davao city I never really tried cooking tilapia for paksiw. And seeing this on the table made me thought only of one thing - get to the bottom of this!

The ginger strips, other bits of spices and herbs made it smell so good that it purged the fishy character out of the Tilapia. It was seasoned just right made it perfect paired with freshly cooked rice. Something good my body need for the big ride.

Crispy Fried Tilapia
Crispy Fried Tilapia. Just how fried Tilapia should be - crispy and savory. I love how it crackled in my mouth. So good that I can't resist another helping of banana-wrapped rice. Get a plateful of this when you visit this resort.

Sunrise Garden Lake Resort is the only resort operating in Lake Seloton. It's a little far from town, hence the advantage of having serene and peaceful surroundings. And true to its slogan, indeed, it's a beautiful place to have a date with nature. The stunning mountain backdrop reflected on the calm lake made it so impressively picturesque one could just stand afar in reverential awe and wonder, it's a beautiful and composed sight to behold!
